Bucketfeet Interview - The Sketch Artist Series

By: Sarah Gouda

Pamela Gallegos, creator of the Tambourine and founder of Pom Graphic Design, holds travel close to her heart. Though born and raised in Miami, her Peruvian roots have deeply impacted her art—and her many trips back to her parents' homeland have imbued her with an appreciation of the country's rich, mystical culture. It's easy to see the influence of travel and nature in her work's bright colors and tribal patterns, and the one-of-a-kind BucketFeet she recently designed are no exception.

Aside from being an immeasurably talented artist, Pamela is also refreshingly honest about her process. She readily opened up to us about the bout of creator's block she recently experienced and just what was needed to help her get through it: "Slumps are inevitable in just about all areas of our lives, and so it is with my art work as well. Usually, it takes a new project to reenergize my creativity. Recently I created my first custom “bucketfeet” shoe design. It was just before this project that I felt like I was in a bit of a creative slump. But then, the shoes came out fantastic and I had so much fun designing them! I have come to realize that the best way for me come out of a creative slump is by just “going for it”— taking on a new project with the same love and passion that I have for what I do as an artist. I just let go and enjoy the journey."

Scroll through the photos below to get an inside look at what went into this vibrant pair of BucketFeet.

Handbags and Luggage Design Collection for Dakine

http://dakine.com/collection/womens/rhapsody

Dakine Women's AC Series pack/bag/accessory2015 Spring/Summer line

It was one year ago that I was inspired to expand my artistic endeavors by designing my first intricate and detailed illustration. This has opened a whole new world of wonderful opportunities for me to express my artistic feelings.
I have been drawing for several years now, but in April, 2013 I decided to expand my artistic drawing and design approach. Since then I have gained a lot of attention from various online stores, blogs, and great people overall.

In this post I wanted to share one of the most exciting moments in my artistic career thus far. After my 'Dreamy Tribal' illustration was completed (see above), I started creating more detailed illustrations and expanding my portfolio to include many intricate handmade patterns and animals as well. Then in August 2013 this e-mail came through:

"Hi Pamela,

I am in the process of selecting an artist for the DAKINE Women's AC Series
pack/bag/accessory 2015 Spring/Summer line. I came across your illustrations
online and after showing your work around to our product and marketing team,
we thought you would be a great fit for the project."

In this e-mail, DAKINE attached some photos of their past designer collections. They all looked amazing. I was a bit nervous at the time. It would be a very big project to take on, and I was still in the learning process relating to “surface pattern design”. Being very excited about the opportunity, I obviously decided to go for it.

Two weeks later I had my pattern ready for DAKINE and they absolutely loved it!

Later in the year they sent me mock-ups of how my designs would look on their various luggage and handbag pieces, and I must humbly say that they were beyond beautiful.
Below is a black and white draft. I then added color in Adobe Illustrator.

Several months went by, and just recently DAKINE contacted me again with some actual photos of my line! They named it 'Rhapsody', and as soon as I opened the e-mail and saw my design on their luggage and handbags… happy tears started to run down my cheek. This was truly a big moment for me.

So today I can finally share them with the world! They won’t be in their stores until February 2015, but they have been produced and below are the final results.

I want to finish this blog post by highlighting a personal thought…. that "Dreams Do Come True".
Pursue whatever it is that you are after. Do not let doubts or fears get in the way. They will always exist, but I believe we must use these feelings to make us stronger, and more determined to prove to ourselves that we really can achieve anything. As long as you have the love and passion, no obstacle can prevent you from achieving your dreams.

POST UPDATE! March 2015

My 'Rhapsody Design' is now available at Billabong stores!
I was beyond thrilled and happy when I went in the store and found this.

Check out this lovely feature about my work and myself

by Attire Club Fraquoh and Franchomme | Men's Style, Fashion And Lifestyle

In Her Own Words: Artist Pamela Gallegos

We invited a series of designers, artists and outstanding bloggers to write about their vision, work and inspiration and created a new category on Attire Club called “In Their Own Words”. Each week a new person takes the stand and discusses beauty and creativity from their perspective.

Pamela Gallegos is a fantastic visual artist whose works catch your eye the moment you see them. The fabulous colors, textures and shapes she uses speak about a wonderful world, a world in which cultures and dreams mix. Her works appear to us as tangible dreams and are characterized by a certain sensibility. We asked Pamela to write about her work and inspiration and to our joy she agreed. In this article, written exclusively for Attire Club, she discusses her background in Peru, how she became an artist and where she finds the things she ends up expressing in her creations.
Her designs do not serve the sole purpose to be displayed on a wall, she uses them as prints for practical objects as well. By looking at her designs, we can learn that the arts do not live separate but meet in a confluence of beauty and style.

Here’s what she wrote:

My World, My Mind, My Inner Soul

I was born in Miami, Florida then moved back to Lima, Peru when I was 5 years old. I went to school in Peru and lived there until I was 19 years old. At that time I decided to move to the United States seeking more independence and adventure. I do remember that from a very young age I have always enjoyed doodling and being in the presence of nature and family.

Living in a country with such a rich culture is where it all began. I had this desire for travel and adventure since I was very little, and once I set foot in my first mystical trip, I started to feel the connection between the harmony in nature and the art within it, so then is when I decided to manifest it in my work. I communicate my art through oil & acrylic paintings, drawings in pencil or rapidograph, and in 2003 I took the step to take it digital as I achieved my career as a Graphic Designer in the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.

My art focuses on natural elements in all its force. You can see many organic and geometrical shapes in each piece. I communicate life, energy and forces of nature through my art. I chose to paint in oils and acrylics and do illustrations in pencil, charcoal and rapidograph pen.

I also get my inspiration from different cultures and art movements. For example, some of my work has certain influence from my Inca culture, and native icons. These influences are not only from nature elements, but from animal elements as well. My art also has some Egyptian influences. An art movement that inspires some of my work is Art Nouveau, especially the organic shapes and fluidity that you will observe in my art.

Logo Illustrations

Logo Design from my illustrations

Here I am creating a logo for a seafood company. They wanted something simple and artistic.
I started creating some abstract fish illustrations which then I scanned and recreated in Adobe Illustrator.
